The Last Walz?

Did you see that Mike Waltz has been moved from his role as U.S. National Security Adviser and nominated instead as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations by President Donald Trump?

So what prompted this dramatic move, the first of the new Trump administration?

The most prominent reason is the “Signalgate” scandal but the thing is I don’t really accept that narrative.

We are asked to believe that Waltz inadvertently added a journalist called Jeffrey Goldberg from The Atlantic to a private Signal chat group discussing sensitive military plans, including airstrikes on Yemen. This security breach, which occurred in March exposed classified information and drew significant public and internal scrutiny. Although Trump initially defended Waltz, calling him a “good man” who had “learned a lesson,” the incident damaged Waltz’s credibility and strained his position within the administration.

But I doubt that Walz could have been so stupid and clumsy as to do that. I think this actually was a Deep State plot to bring down Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. He was the real target but it failed. I think an outside forced “added” Goldberg to the group chat who then predictably used the access to embarrass Hegseth. Maybe that “outside” force was able to access Walz’s Signal? Either way, Walz is the fall guy and has taken the heat on it.

I don’t think that we will miss Walz though.

He was as an establishment figure. His Neo-con Russia-hawk stance, advocating for more sanctions if Moscow didn’t agree to an Ukraine ceasefire, was anachronistic Reports also suggest Waltz’s relationship with White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles had soured post-Signalgate, further isolating him.

So I am glad Trump has moved him but I think that it was Hegseth they tried to take down -and failed.
