Making Sausage The battle for the Speakership

The News is obsessed and spinning bullsh** over the battle for Speaker of the House in the United States.

The Speaker of the House is THE most powerful seat in the U.S. Congress. They are 3rd in line to the Presidency. President, Vice President, Speaker of the House, that is the Order of Succession.

Representative Keven McCarthy is/was the heir apparent following the House Rules of Seniority, but not Procedure. The Speaker is chosen by vote it is usually a member of the Majority party, but it does not have to be, it also does not have to be a member of Congress or a member of current leadership. That has been the tradition but not a rule.

Usually if there are hold outs that disrupt the ability of simple succession they make a deal. The no votes are offered committee positions, or some other concession to change that vote. That is not working this time around.

The issues blocking McCarthy from the Speakership are not over internal power and graft. It is over McCarthy himself. McCarthy in a lot of peoples view is a RINO and part of the problem. He stood with Paul Ryan blocking and slow walking everything Trump tried to accomplish when Republicans controlled both the House and the Senate. That behavior caused the Republicans to lose both the House and the Senate in Trumps presidencies midterm.

McCarthy has also aided Democrats over the past 6 years in passing some of their agenda. Those are the issues that are sabotaging McCarthy’s bid for Speaker. The small majority the Republicans hold in the House means McCarthy can only lose 5 Republican votes and win. There are as of this moment 15 members who will not vote for him.

As of now there is only one other Representative that has thrown his hat in the ring. That Represntative is Andy Biggs.

Biggs is an American attorney and politician who represents Arizona’s 5th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives. The district, which was once represented by U.S. SenatorsJohn McCain and Jeff Flake, is in the heart of the East Valley and includes most of Mesa and Chandler and all of Queen Creek and Biggs’s hometown of Gilbert.

Republican, Biggs was a member of the Arizona House of Representatives from 2003 to 2011 and a member of the Arizona Senate from 2011 to 2017. He was president of the Arizona Senate from 2013 to 2017. In 2016, he was elected to Congress. In September 2019, Biggs became chairman of the Freedom Caucus, which includes the House Republican Conference‘s most conservative members.

Biggs in spite of the fact that he is from the same region as John McCain and Jeff Flake is a Conservative, and that is the issue. There is a group of Republican Representatives that want to actually represent their voters and place someone into the Speakership that will push real conservative issues.

No one else has put their name forward. Can Biggs beat McCarthy? I don’t believe he can. Steve Scalise could, but he refuses to run. What we are witnessing is a Democratic Republic in action, not Chaos.

As of this writing McCarthy has just lost the first 5 votes…… so now the ugliness of making sausage begins.
