Conservative-Reform alliance to beat Labour?

Simple question for you. Would you support some sort of coalition government in 2029 between Reform and the Conservatives in order to keep Labour OUT of power? The idea has been circulating these past few days and the *suggestion* is that many Reform voters just want Nigel Farage into 10, Downing Street, and if part of the price for that is doing a deal with Kemi Badenoch then so be it.

The thing is I don’t believe a word of this and there are at least three good reasons to consider this as something we don’t have to even think about right now.

For starters, Reform are doing so well in the polls at the moment that there is no reason to seek a coalition with the Conservatives. It is entirely within the boundaries of probability that Reform can win in 2029 and win on their own. Farage and Zusuf have repeatedly said they do not want any alliance with the Conservatives and I totally support this position. The Conservatives are milquetoast at best and whilst we could say that some like Robert Jenrick and Badenoch herself are not too bad, they represent a party that spend 14 years betraying us. Why on earth hook up with them?

Secondly, Nigel Farage is not a man who shares the spotlight easily. Ask Rupert Lowe and Ben Habib. The notion that he could share power with Badenoch (or her successor) is fanciful. Farage is notoriously thin-skinned and I think that he wants to be PM under his own steam. I think Farage also understand that Coalitions tend to dilute the values of all involved as we saw with David Cameron and Nick Clegg’s political marriage. In essence it would dilute Reform and bolster the Conservatives who at heart are part of the Uniparty.

Finally, some say that the advantage of such a prospective Coalition is that the Conservatives are experienced in the art of Government whereas Reform would be newbies. Given their track record in Government, I never want to see a Conservative hold office again. I’d be happy for a Government of absolute beginners.

The political Left could also form a coalition to try and sustain power. If Labour, the LibDems, the Greens, the SNP and Plaid Cymru combined their forces, that would be a real threat. Labour knows it cannot win so anything is possible!

I *would* like to see Reform and the Conservatives tactically organise constituency by constituency to maximise the right of leftist vote BUT this would not be a pact, just a recognition of reality.

It’s a long haul to 2029 and now is NOT the time to discussing any form of coalition!
