Why Katie Hopkins is WRONG!

For starters, let me say that I usually agree with Katie Hopkins and like her a lot. We have done work together, most notably when we went to the UN in Geneva together to speak on human rights! She talks common sense and I think she does not deserve the ill-informed criticism that comes her way. She is a delight to talk to off-screen too and has been building a very effective public profile these past few years. I am delighted for her.

However, like all the rest of us (including me) she can get some things wrong, and this post from her is wrong!

She is endorsing Nigel Farage and Reform and seems to buy into this recent PR pitch.

He may have altered his style in this clip but what about his substance? Farage has been all over the place this year and he attracted the ire of Elon Musk for his equivocation on various issues, including Tommy Robinson’s incarceration.

We SHOULDN’T have to choose between monsters let alone align behind them. I don’t buy into this “let’s support our least worst option” as that is the politics of low expectations. It basically suggests that, yeah, “Farage is crap but he’s not as crap as the others” so let’s pile in and support him! Why?

I do NOT think that we can trust Farage as far as we can see him. Nor do I think we can trust Reform’s unelected Chairman Zia Yusuf or the awful Richard Tice. Yet Katie simply shrugs and says let’s just go with them anyway. I believe that is just way too big a risk.

Where I do agree with her is that voting Reform in county council elections on May 1st (and in the Runcorn Westminster by-election) is ok, but blindly trusting Farage is foolish.

For example, Farage announced that Reform will have a Deportation Minister and that they are working on a policy but it won’t be revealed until AFTER the elections. That’s a bit of luck, right?

Reform may be the monster that Katie can get behind but there are other options coming along which may offer a more principled alternative. Yes, they won’t be there on May 1st so voting Reform then is fair enough but I won’t align with ANY monster. Will you?
