Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called for the creation of a European army primarily due to concerns about the reliability of U.S. support and the need for Europe to strengthen its own defence capabilities. In doing so, the renowned grifter Zelensky is simply parroting previous calls for an EU army.
The EU has already taken steps toward closer defence cooperation, such as the Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO) and the European Defence Fund (EDF), but these focus on collaboration rather than the creation of a standing army. Proposals for an EU army have been debated for years, with leaders like France’s Emmanuel Macron and Germany’s Olaf Scholz supporting greater military autonomy, while others, like Poland and the Baltic states, prioritize NATO.
Given the reluctance of many European countries to spend money on defence, and given the timelines involved, I think this is simply reflexive anti-US hysteria but there is one enemy that Europe’s political elite fear and would want to crush – their own people.
You see it is perfectly obvious that there is a chasm between what the European politicians WANT and what European citizens want. Mass migration has been foisted upon so many European Nations and that has been building up great resentment which is then reflected in new voting patterns. The likes of Macron and Scholz fear popular uprising against them and so the idea of a standing Euro Army will appeal to them. Tyranny is always their default mode.
