As we approach the May 1st English Local Council elections, the Reform Party are looking a very credible electoral force and I believe that they will do very well indeed.
But there are some concerns we need to talk about!
Let’s start by chatting about Neville Watson, pictured above, a Reform UK council candidate and chair of the party’s Enfield branch in north London. Neville has publicly supported economic reparations for the “unimaginable wrong” of slavery. Whaaat?
As a community activist (sighs!!!) with a background in social enterprise (sighs some more), youth work (sighs even more) and special educational needs and disabilities Watson, the son of Jamaican-born Windrush generation parents, stated that slavery drove a “deep-rooted and sometimes subconscious racism” and left a “deep, indelible mark” on Black communities. He shows zero gratitude for the UK providing a welcome to his parents.
So let’s just be clear about the type of candidates Farage and Yusuf are pushing. Watson is part of Reform UK’s effort to appeal to ethnic minority voters in urban areas. In all fairness, Reparations are not official Reform policy but it’s interesting they embrace those who would wish it were so.
Here’s another instance of Reform candidate selection. Can you spot something?
It looks like Reform are selecting candidates in particular constituencies based on ticking the diversity boxes, just like Labour and the Conservatives.
I worry that the Reform Leadership – Farage and Yusuf, are simply an extension of the Uniparty and that by delivering Reform into power we actually sustain the status quo.
