British Conservatism died back in November 1990. That was when the Euroscum in the Conservative Party finally killed off the leadership of Margaret Thatcher and she resigned. It was a historic moment in more ways than one. Now I don’t think Thatcher was really all that Conservative and I did disagree with her on some issues BUT she at least managed to uphold the impression of her Party being Conservative. And I regret her loss. After her – came the deluge.
We have seven years of bland John Major, which blended into the moon-faced “heir to Blair” David Cameron, then the dismal Theresa May, then Boris Johnson, then Liz Truss and finally, Rishi Sunak. At no point during these 44 years has this Party acted as authentic Conservatives and now the price is to be paid. You can only betray your voters so much and they turn.
When the General Election was called the Conservatives had 344 MPs. Here is the latest poll…
Translated into SEATS, this suggests that the Conservatives will be reduced to 75-80 odd seats. This would be a historic low and the end of the Conservatives as we know them. It is a REMARKABLE statistic that every Conservative seat in England is now a marginal so in theory they could lose ALL their seats. This won’t happen but it shows how parlous is their prospects.
The emergence of Reform has now become an existential crisis for the Conservatives and it is quite likely that Reform will go past them in the polls. Because of our first past the post system, it is unlikely that Reform will get more than half a dozen seats, at most, but the future looks black for the Conservatives. There is going to have to be a realignment in British Politics and I believe that Nigel Farage is hoping to do a reverse takeover of the remains of the Conservatives.
