Let’s start at the very beginning. Who was Mike Lynch? Well…
British technology tycoon Mike Lynch is among six tourists missing after his super yacht sunk off the Sicily coast. Mr Lynch, who founded software giant Autonomy in 1996, was made an OBE for services to enterprise in 2006. In June, he was cleared of conducting a massive fraud relating to a $11 billion (£8.64bn) sale to US company Hewlett Packard.
It is feared that he has drowned along with his 18 year old daughter, Hannah. No bodies have been recovered at time of writing. A terrible tragedy.
But then there is a twist.
Stephen Chamberlain, 52, was Mr Lynch’s co-defendant in his US fraud trial in which both men were acquitted following the $11bn (£8.64bn) sale of the software giant Autonomy.
Mr Chamberlain died after being fatally struck by the vehicle while out running in Cambridgeshire on Saturday and his family has now paid tribute to him.
So what are the chances that both men should be wiped out within a few days? It seems a remarkable coincidence and I don’t believe in coincidence these days. Do you?
