So what are we to make of the news that the UK will immediately suspend 30 of its 350 arms export licences with Israel because there was “a risk such equipment might be used to commit serious violations of international humanitarian law”, according to Foreign minister David Lammy?
Uber low IQ Lammy said the decision to suspend the licences did not amount to a blanket ban or an arms embargo, but only involved those that could be used in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Palestinian enclave of Gaza.
Ah, that explains everything – only weapons used to fight the terrorists in Hamas. Phew, that makes so much more sense!
Listen, no one should be surprised at this decision as Labour continues to pander to the Muslim world. This was utterly predictable and things will get worse.
And the reaction?
The Chief Rabbi has condemned the government’s decision to suspend some arms sales to Israel amid a mounting backlash over the move. Sir Ephraim Mirvis said it “beggars belief” after foreign secretary David Lammy made the surprise announcement in the House of Commons. Israeli politicians and senior Tories have also hit out at the decision, which has reportedly angered the US government as well.
I don’t believe the last bit, I assume this decision was taken with at least the tacit agreement of the Biden regime!
Several individual EU arms suppliers to Israel have also suspended some supplies to Israel and that includes Germany, Spain, Belgium and Italy.
However the KEY arms supplier to Israel is the USA and I don’t think this will stop anytime soon, There is a lot of $$$ to be made supplying munitions and the pressure from the Israel lobby is very very strong there, evidently less here.
Diplomatic relations are already strained between the UK and Israel when the Labour government reversed its opposition to the International Criminal Court (ICC) seeking an arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The UK under Starmer is proving to be one of the most viscerally HOSTILE governments to Israel, but then again that is no surprise. I wonder what Starmer’s Jewish wife makes of it all?
