As I intimated in my previous article a fortnight ago, the loudest voice in contemporary Britain is militant Islam. Close on Islam’s heels is the ‘progressive Left’ and their hysterical shrilling on just about anything from the distortion of biological reality, to the cancellation of those who have a different opinion on the topics of the moment. Think about numerous exemplars of societal negativity in the country today, and you can soundly attribute most of them to one or other of these groups. With the former it’s everything from the massively heightened potential for a terrorist attack, through adolescent grooming, to a refusal by cab drivers to have guide dogs in their taxis for ‘religious reasons’ (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-36702326). Whether those in authority like to acknowledge it or not, I repeat my assertion that the United Kingdom (like many other Western societies) has a number of significant issues with Islam it simply does not have with Hinduism, Judaism, Sikhism, etc. Look beyond the deflection shield of ‘Islamophobia’ accusations; just study at the evidence in front of your own eyes over decades. It goes all the way back to the book-burning mobs on the streets of Bradford during the Satanic Verses controversy….almost 35 years ago!
This time, following the genocidal attacks on Jewish communities close to the Gazan border, the streets of several cities in this country have been flowing with repulsive rivers of humanity made up of the worst elements from both communities. The result has been scenes of anti-Semitism with a ferocity that wouldn’t have looked out of place in 1930s Germany. Whether it be on the streets of Glasgow, Manchester or that emetic spectacle in Central London, the clear message they’re sending out is: ‘Support the Jewish state at your peril’.

What perplexes me is how these people, who spit rage at the plight of the Palestinians, never get vexed over the treatment of Muslims in other situations. When China was capturing and imprisoning its Uyghur minority, we heard not so much as a peep from these individuals. Did you know the Chinese government has arbitrarily detained over a million Muslim Uyghurs in concentration camps since 2017? Uyghurs are a predominantly Turkic-speaking ethnic group primarily in China’s northwestern region of Xinjiang. Beyond the detentions, Uyghurs in the region have been subjected to such cruelties as intense surveillance, forced labour, and involuntary sterilisations, among other rights abuses. There have been no demonstrations from the pro-Palestinian apostles on our own turf concerning these injustices? Why not? What about the frequent appearance of Ewan McGregor on commercials, imploring us to dip into our pockets for a few pennies to help the starving children in Yemen. And why is there a war in that benighted part of the Arabian Peninsula? Because fighting between Houthi rebels and the Saudi coalition that backs Yemen’s internationally-recognised government has been raging for many years, with the Houthi militia being backed and financially supported by…..guess who?…..Iran! Come on, Mr Corbyn, has the cat got your tongue?
So please don’t give me any excuses about these demonstrations being in solidarity with Gazans.
What we’re seeing on the streets of London and elsewhere is unabashed Jew-hatred. As Allister Heath eloquently wrote in Wednesday’s Daily Telegraph:
‘The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been totemised: it is the only dispute in Asia, Africa or the Middle East that matters to cultural elites, because Israel is the only Jewish state. The idiots signing anti-Israel letters have no interest in the fate of the Kurds, or of the Tibetans, or of any other minority…
The Western cultural elites, the far-Left and the Islamist extremists don’t care about the millions of Muslims around the world who desperately need rescuing from tyrants, genocidal dictators or poverty: they are more interested in hating Israel and Jews’ (https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/10/25/israel-hamas-west-protests-moral-implosion-civilisation/).
For Labour this poses an especially grave situation. It is important to remember the Left in this country have not just been the most partial to mass immigration and multiculturalism, they’ve actively profited from claiming voter blocks as their own. We hear tales of ‘Muslim voters’, ‘black voters’ and ‘gay voters’ as if they’re the preserve of the Left in perpetuity. The difficulty Labour has is that 89% of Muslims gave their vote to the party in 2019, when it was under the spell of Corbynite anti-Semitism. With a sizeable proportion of that religion perfectly content to support such an unpleasant outfit, can it be beyond the realms of possibility to assume they’ll want their proverbial pound of Jewish flesh every time Israel decides to fight for its very survival?
