It’s 2021 and SNP Leader and Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon is proving to be every bit as big a Covid tyrant as Jacinda Ardern or Justin Trudeau.
Speaking in the Scottish parliament in the capital Edinburgh, Sturgeon announced her government would retain tougher “level two” measures in much of the country’s southern and central areas. The first minister said restrictions had to be retained in the country’s most populous region, known as the central belt, because of the faster spreading Indian variant, which now accounts for over half of Scotland’s daily Covid cases. “The decisions we have arrived at today are difficult and complex,” Sturgeon said. “This reflects the fact that we are currently at a delicate and fragile point,” she added.
The media lauded her tyranny and at every point she cynically postured as more hardline than Boris Johnson was in England. We were told she was wildly popular as she terrorised the Scottish people.
As you can see it was all going swimmingly well until 2023 and THEN came the double whammy that destroyed her.
Sturgeon became a lightning rod for gender-critical groups, including Harry Potter author JK Rowling, as the Scottish parliament debated, then overwhelmingly passed, a new law on rights for trans people in December. After that, a new row erupted over a trans woman (aka man) who was to be put in a women’s prison — even though he had raped two women before he transitioned.
Ther was also an ongoing police investigation into possible fundraising fraud at the SNP, where Sturgeon’s husband Peter Murrell was the party’s chief executive.
Failure to deliver on improving the health service, upgrade a major road in the Highlands, or even bring in a bottle and can recycling scheme had bedevilled her administration.
Not a good look and her popularity started to collapse. Next came THAT Campervan! Quick summary;
The SNP purchased a £110,000 Niesmann+Bischoff motorhome in January 2021. The vehicle was intended to be used as a “battle bus” for the 2021 Scottish Parliament election campaign, especially in light of the uncertainties around Covid-19 restrictions at the time. However, it was never used for this purpose and sat unused outside the home of Peter Murrell’s mother in Dunfermline, Fife. Peter Murrell was Nicola Sturgeons husband.
He and her were the consummate power couple, She was First Minister since 2014 and he was CEO of the SNP and had held that position since 2001!
He was arrested as Police investigated the strange case of the Campervan. He resigned in shame in March 2023 after taking responsibility for misleading the media about party membership numbers.
Nicola Sturgeon also resigned in March 2023.
It was over. And now so is their marriage,
Nice choice of lavender paper,
The “Murrells” are now an ex-power couple. No one should mourn their passing.
