What most people are missing is the fact that the United States has just initiated a War in North America. President Trump has signed multiple Presidential Orders, along with issuing multiple directive to USNORTHCOM the military command that controls the defense of the Continental United States.
He has sent an initial 1,500 troops along with various assets such as C-130’s, C-17’s to deal with the removal of illegal immigrants already being held in California, Arizona, and Texas. That is what most people are concentrating on skewing their view of the much larger picture.
What has really happened is an open declaration of War against a threat not to just the U.S., but the entire Western Hemisphere.
“No later than 10 days from the effective date of this order, deliver to the president a revision to the Unified Command Plan that assigns United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) the mission to seal the borders and maintain the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security of the United States by repelling forms of invasion including unlawful mass migration, narcotics trafficking, human smuggling and trafficking, and other criminal activities,” Trump’s order read.
He has demanded an immediate Battle Plan to be delivered in 10 days. One of the first military units that have been deployed is an Intelligence Gathering Unit. That means we already have Predator Drones in the air gathering information on Cartel assets and targets.
Please read the whole order linked below it is not long at all. It lays out exactly what he is going to do while also tying the terrorist designation into long existing Law as to use the Military from both the border and inside U.S. territory, as exampled here.
(b) Within 14 days of the date of this order, the Attorney General and the Secretary of Homeland Security shall take all appropriate action, in consultation with the Secretary of State, to make operational preparations regarding the implementation of any decision I make to invoke the Alien Enemies Act, 50 U.S.C. 21 et seq., in relation to the existence of any qualifying invasion or predatory incursion against the territory of the United States by a qualifying actor, and to prepare such facilities as necessary to expedite the removal of those who may be designated under this order.
The Order
Here is how the leftwing Washington Post described what declaring the Cartels as Terrorist Organizations mean.
Previous American presidents considered labeling the cartels as terrorist groups, but they always backed down in the face of stiff Mexican opposition. (Trump himself was persuaded to drop the idea in 2019.)
Why is this a big deal? And why is Mexico so opposed?
First, some background on the idea of cartels as terrorists
A 1996 law allowed the State Department to create a list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs) and punish those on it with special sanctions. Some of the best-known groups on the list are al-Qaeda, the Islamic State and Hamas.
President Barack Obama was among those who thought about adding Mexican drug gangs to the terrorism list. While the narcos might not fit the traditional terrorist profile — they’re not driven by a political agenda like Osama bin Laden — they’ve used similar tactics such as car bombings and beheadings.
In the past few years, as tens of thousands of Americans died from fentanyl smuggled over the border, the idea of branding the traffickers as terrorists gained traction. Twenty-one Republican attorneys general asked President Joe Biden to add Mexican cartels to the terrorist list in 2023.
Trump’s new border czar, Tom Homan, said in November that Mexican crime groups “have killed more Americans than every terrorist organization in the world” and that Trump was “committed to calling them terrorist organizations and using the full might of the United States Special Operations to take them out.”
The Washington Post does it’s best to try and describe what this means unbiasedly. The usual bias of WaPo leaks into their article but is still worth the read at the link below.
Dealing with the Cartels as Terrorist organizations is not just a military operation. Designated as TO’s the Cartels plus all those who do financial business with them are subject to severe Sanctions and Criminal Prosecutions.
Bloomberg reported that such a designation “risks creating a chilling effect on financial firms and other companies over fears they could face severe penalties by even unwittingly serving or paying criminals.”
The United States lost 58,220 people in the 10 years of the Vietnam War, we are losing that many Americans every 6 months from Fentanyl being brought into our country by the Cartels. We had 416,800 battle deaths in WWII. We have lost that same number of people over the 4 years of President Biden from the Cartels Narcotics.
Add to that the surge in violence in every American City as these groups establish territory and distribution networks for both Narcotics as well as Human Trafficking make no mistake it is a War. A War that will now be fought with the proper tools needed to confront it.
