I was really disappointed to see that the result of the Wisconsin Supreme Court election has resulted in a significant victory for Susan Crawford, the liberal-leaning judge, over her conservative opponent, Brad Schimel. This win maintains the court’s 4-3 liberal majority, which has far-reaching implications for Wisconsin and beyond.
Here’s why this outcome matters!
This election has determined the ideological balance of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, a key battleground state’s highest judicial body. Liberals first gained this 4-3 majority in 2023 after 15 years of conservative control, and Crawford’s victory ensures its continuation.
This majority has already influenced major issues, such as striking down Republican-drawn legislative maps in 2023, which shifted the state legislature’s balance. With this win, the court is now poised to address upcoming cases on critical topics like abortion rights, voting rights, and potentially congressional redistricting.
The liberal majority may well lead to revised congressional maps, possibly reducing the current 6-2 Republican advantage in Wisconsin’s U.S. House delegation, impacting national politics given the U.S. House’s narrow Republican majority. In essence it will most likely cost the GOP a seat they cannot afford to lose in 2026. That could in turn paralyse Trump’s final two years. This has real consequence beyond Wisconsin.
The race also serves as an early test of political sentiment in the second Trump administration. Despite heavy financial backing from Elon Musk and an endorsement from Donald Trump for Schimel, Crawford’s win suggests limits to their influence in this swing state, which Trump narrowly won in November 2024. The unprecedented spending, exceeding $90 million and making it the most expensive judicial race in U.S. history, highlighted national stakes. Crawford’s campaign framed it as a stand against out-of-state billionaires, resonating with voters wary of external influence. They clearly missed the Soros monies!
For Wisconsin, a state with divided government—a Democratic governor and Republican-led legislature—the Supreme Court often acts as the final arbiter on contentious policies. The liberal majority’s continuation can now block conservative efforts to restrict abortion or voting access.
The one bit of good news here was that this amendment requiring Photo ID actually passed, quite comfortably.
The real curiosity here is that Democrats currently have a mediocre 26% national approval rating and we can see from the above that Wisconsin voted for Voter ID but somehow liberal extremist Susan Crawford wins the Wisconsin Supreme Court election!
Nationally, this is a setback for Trump and Musk’s agendas. Democrats see it as a morale boost and a step toward reclaiming influence in 2026 midterms. The MAGA and MAHA agenda beyond 2026 is now in peril and the GOP needs to do better and really focus on ALL these elections. Soros does!
