Pardon me!

The U.S. President’s pardon power is one of the most significant and unique executive powers outlined in the Constitution.

Article II, Section 2, Clause 1 of the U.S. Constitution grants the President the power to “grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offenses against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.” This means the President can forgive individuals for federal crimes, but this power does not extend to state crimes or to overturn impeachments.

I don’t really understand why this power was granted in the first place but it does seem that the President has broad discretion in issuing pardons. The Constitution does not specify criteria or require justification, allowing the President to act based on personal judgment, mercy, or policy considerations. That’s a LOT of power and I guess the assumption is that it would be used judiciously. However….welcome to the age of Biden.

As you can see, most Presidents have used this great power with considerable discretion until we hit the era of Obama and then it shoots up dramatically. But then just LOOK at what has happened under Biden. He has issued more pardons than all the other Presidents combined. The Biden regime has disgraced the US Presidency.
