Donald Trump continues making waves, even in Gaza! Did you see that he has said that he wants Egypt and Jordan to take in Palestinians from Gaza, which he described as a “demolition site”.
In a phone call this weekend, Mr Trump said he had told Jordan’s King Abdullah: “I’d love you to take on more, because I’m looking at the whole Gaza Strip right now and it’s a mess, it’s a real mess.” He said he planned to make a similar request to Egypt’s president on Sunday. The move “could be temporary” or “could be long-term”, he said.
It’s a very interesting suggestion given that neither Egypt or Jordan seem to have any enthusiasm for taking any more Palestinians up until this point. They know them for what they are and they don’t want them, and yet perhaps Trump can force them to take some?
Trump added;
I’d rather get involved with some of the Arab nations and build housing at a different location where they can maybe live in peace for a change,” Trump told reporters on Air Force One. “You’re talking about probably a million and a half people, and we just clean out that whole thing and say: ‘You know, it’s over.’”
Gaza has 2.3 million residents. Trump said he asked King Abdullah if the country would take in more Palestinians. Jordan is already home to 2.4 million Palestinian refugees, from families expelled in 1948 after the creation of Israel.
I don’t really know if this will happen. Gaza would essentially be de-fumigated of Palestinians – that might be a good thing, but doesn’t it just shift the problem to a different location? I suppose it might destroy Hamas which would be a positive but as we see in the West Bank, Al Fatah are equally vile. I can respect Trump’s desire to change the dynamics!
In a final twist, we might want to recall the Bible has to say about this;
Zephaniah 2:4-7 For Gaza shall be destroyed, and Ascalon shall be a desert, they shall cast out Azotus at noonday, and Accaron shall be rooted up.
