Here’s what a day for me on Substack looks like.
Wakes up. Checks Email. These appear daily.
As you can see, Substack is actively disabling free subscribers to my Substack. I don’t know why this is happening but it is a daily feature of life for me here. The consequence is that I am unable to grow this account any longer which is tremendously disheartening for me. If these are spam email accounts then why can’t substack tell me? I would be ok with that, as I want real people, not bots.
This has been on going for over a month and during the same time my numbers here are frozen in aspic. In fact, they go backwards. It’s not as if Substack is my only audience, or my biggest audience, but I really like those of you who come here to read my thoughts leave yours and I thought I was doing the right thing investing a few hours a day thinking of interesting topics and perhaps providing you with a thoughtful take on them. But I increasingly see that no matter how hard I work here, Substack will strip away any growth which seems quite mean of them, to be honest.
I am polite and do not write near the knuckle content. I do like to challenge political orthodoxy however and maybe that is where my problem comes from. Perhaps Substack is about restricted speech, not free speech? If so, it is less appealing than I though.
I don’t know if any reading this gets these daily emails from Substack but at this point my interest here is evaporating. I want to write but when I wake up to this crap every day that desire fades quicker than my subscriber numbers. The one thing you can do to help me is to become a PAID subscriber. Those numbers have also gone backwards but I do appreciate the kindness. If I could see something move there, I would feel less isolated on Substack. That decision is yours, not Substacks!
