Why Liz Truss was the Conservative’s last hope

Consider the essence of what Conservatism stands for. Allowing people to keep as much of their hard-earned wages as possible; Shrinking the State; Encouraging enterprise and rewarding entrepreneurialism; Supporting the family. There’s not much not to like about that in theory but the reality is the modern Conservative Party opposes, if not despises, all these virtues. Which bring us to Liz Truss.

I have previously compared Liz Truss to Lady Jane Grey. Readers may recall that Lady Jane Grey was Queen for nine days in 1553 but was then infamously bundled out of that role and executed, aged 16. Truss was Prime Minister from the 6 September 2022 to 25 October 2022, 49 days. She was then bundled out of that role but at least she kept her head.

Where it gets interesting is in understanding why she was swept from power. Let’s recall that she was ELECTED by the Conservative grass roots membership, beating Rishi Sunak with 57% of the vote vs his 42% of the vote. She was a clear winner but that’s what led to her untimely demise.

Throughout the leadership campaign that ran for several months last summer, she was fairly explicit about her vision if elected. She wanted to cut taxes on individuals and on business. She believed that the existing tax burden put in place by Chancellor Rishi Sunak was restricting UK economic growth and should be reduced. She saw a need to realise more of the potential of Brexit by creating Free Ports across the UK.  She suggested that the EU would need to accept the removal of the Irish sea border to deliver further on Brexit. Her focus was economic growth. So, why did it go so wrong?

I believe that the same global interests that pursued Covid tyranny, Digital IDs and war with Russia became alarmed at what Truss was promising. Yes, she played along with the required “Slava Ukraine” refrain, indeed she was bellicose about Russia and China, but her domestic policies were unashamedly pro-growth and pro Britain. That was a problem as the cabal want the UK subsumed back into the EU and so prosperity must be averted at all costs. So, they waited until the Budget that she and Kwasi Kwarteng put into place, and then they pounced. Interest rates soared, we were told that pensions would collapse, the Pound plunged.

This was all choreographed, of course, with one simple objective and that was to push her out and get Rishi in! The corrupted Media amplified the financial chaos and Truss first sacrificed Kwarteng before announcing that she was stepping down. This time around the Conservative membership was not allowed a vote on who would lead their Party. This time around it would be her fellow MPs that selected the Prime Minister. The fix was in.

Consider what Sunak has done since his installation. Tax rates have been hiked to a level last seen at the end of World War Two. Interest rates were raised on Mortgages. All talk of Free Ports was dismissed and instead austerity was the new message from Mr Ever so Responsible. Each measure Sunak has introduced has pleased his globalist paymasters whilst ensuring the Conservatives will lose the next General Election by alienating the voter base.

Liz Truss took to the media these past few days to insist that her policies were right but that she was undermined by the left-wing economic establishment. She is partly right but she misses the broader point; It is now impossible to govern as an authentic patriotic conservative in modern Britain. Like her alleged political hero, Margaret Thatcher, she found that out the hard way.
