I was pleased to see US MAGA Firebrand Marjorie Taylor Green oppose the Tiktok Ban bill that passed through the House yesterday. As she puts it;
As the only member of Congress who has ever been banned from social media, I oppose today’s TikTok ban bill. This bill would open Pandora’s box and create a slippery slope for future government censorship of Americans and our precious First Amendment.
This is precisely my concern as I see this entirely as a Trojan Horse Bill. Many politicians are instinctively hostile to any media platform that they cannot control, censor and punish. So they use TikTok as the easy target which many will go with but once the PRINCIPLE is established in law, they can extend the threat to EVERY social media platform. Even Substack would not be immune as politicians extend their control over what we say, how we say it, and where people can read it,
Is TikTok a danger? Yes. Is I linked to the Chinese Communist Party? Yes. Does that constitute a risk to our modern pluralist democracies? Yes. But so does Congress! So does our own corrupt political establishment!
I think Washington DC is a greater threat to US Well-being that Beijing!
