Question; What does Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Finland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway all have in common? Answer; They have ALL banned Halal slaughter. This was done in the name of animal welfare and it affects both halal and kosher slaughter.
I am good with this and wish that the UK had the sphericals to follow!
We are told that Muslims MUST eat Halal meat. Well, that may be technically the case but despite these bans being in place millions of Muslims remain in these nations. So this barbaric practise of unstunned slaughter may be desirable but truth be told it is not a pre-requisite. Further, if they don’t like it they can always leave and find countries that will accommodate their wishes.
Back in 2020, the Court of Justice of the EU ruled that member countries may ban the practice of ritual slaughter in order to promote animal welfare, without infringing on the rights of religious groups. This strikes me as a well balanced decision. It is the welfare of the animals with which we must concern ourselves and unstunned slaughter is something we cannot accept.
