Here is Zohran Mamdani being sworn in as the new Mayor of New York last night. He placed his hand on Qurans—including his grandfather’s copy and a two-century-old edition from the New York Public Library—while reciting the oath administered by New York State Attorney General Letitia James.
Just by way of context, New York Attorney General Letitia James was indicted on October last year on two felony counts: bank fraud and making false statements to a financial institution. So here is someone who could, if found guilty, be going to prison herself, administering the oath to Mamdani. Do you see how messed up NYC has become?
As for Mamdani himself, this is what has pledged to do now he is in power.
He has sworn to strengthen NYC’s “sanctuary” rules and legal help for immigrants so city agencies do not help federal immigration enforcement. Got that? So he is committed to lawbreakers and intent to oppose the force of law. The reason he got elected in the first place is due to the huge immigrant population that has swarmed into New York during the past five years. Around 48% of “New Yorkers” do not speak English. New York City itself has about 3.1 million foreign‑born residents, around 38% of the total population.
Mamdani will ensure the supply of “asylum seekers” keep pouring into the Big Apple until it is totally rotten. But he will do more than that;
He says he will dd about a 2% city income tax surcharge on people earning over $1 million a year. In addition he will raise the state corporate tax rate. Taxes are going UP and he assumption people will just pay them. I think that is wrong and more than a few will bail out.
Drivers will also suffer as he upports congestion pricing in Manhattan to reduce traffic and pollution. The London model will now be enacted.
He says he will introduce a rents freeze for about 1 million apartments so current tenants are protected from increase. So Landlords cannot increase rents. You can all tell what will happen there. You simply cannot interfere with the iron law of supply and demand. Apartments will be less well maintained and there will be fewer of them, it’s blindingly obvious to all but radical socialists!
New Yorkers have only themselves to blame for what lies in store. They allowed this to happen over many years and now Mamdani has power he will use it. The Big Apple will be hollowed out from within.
