The woke never sleep! Even Quasimodo ringing the bells doesn’t stop them! In fact, in this story, it triggers them!
A West End production of Hunchback of Notre Dame has faced criticism over its decision to cast a non-disabled actor as its lead.
Say what?
Jack Maple Productions came under fire after critics claimed that casting an actor without a physical impairment as the lead role of Quasimodo was an example of ‘ableism’. Equity, the performing arts trade union, states that its policy is to ‘support the casting of a deaf or disabled artist in deaf or disabled character roles,’ and that ‘the decision not to cast a physically disabled actor’ goes against its principles.
Hang on, isn’t that called ACTING?
I was glad to see somebody attack this stupidity by stating
‘So disabled people can only play hunchbacks? This is the line you’re going with?’
Let’s be clear; Acting is simply playing adults playing make believe! The person cast for the role should be the person best able to act it. In this case, ableist is utterly irrelevant.
Otherwise where do you draw the line?
Only actual cyborgs can play RoboCop?
Only genuine royalty can play Royalty?
Only real aliens can play aliens?
Should the role of Richard III be reserved for hunchbacks?
Should the role of Oscar Wilde be reserved for gay men?
As for Equity, it seems they are ok with certain woke contortions on-stage!
How about this – a woman plays Ricard III!
Silence from Equity on this one too!
They are a bunch of hypocrites.
