The utter irrelevance of the Conservatives

The Conservatives are holding their Annual Conference and like most other sensible people, I couldn’t care less what they are promising. The existential problem for Badenoch and her crew is that EVERY promise they make in 2025 is undermined but what they DID between 2010-2024!

Let me give you a simple example of this,

OK, I would agree with this, the Civil Service is way too big. But who was in Government when this massive expansion took place? Yes, the Conservatives!

It’s this stunning hypocrisy that invalidates their every claim.

An Opinium Poll suggests that under Kemi Badenoch’s leadership, views of the Conservative Party have worsened on almost all attributes, particularly on readiness for government (down to -37 from -32 last year). However the Party is more united. Which means diddly squat when you see poll numbers like this;

On top of this, a new YouGov poll of 652 Conservative Party members reveals that 50% believe Kemi Badenoch should step aside before the next general election, despite 61% approving her performance, while 46% support her continuation. So they like her but want her gone,

Robert Jenrick emerges as the preferred replacement, with 37% naming him top choice and 46% backing him in a head-to-head against Badenoch. The survey, conducted September 26 to October 2 amid the party’s Manchester conference, also shows 64% favouring an electoral pact with Reform UK and 46% open to a full merger

The way I see it, Badenoch will be forced to resign after next May’s elections in Wales and Scotland. It is likely that her Party will turn in a catastrophic performance at the polls as Reform soars. The momentum for change will sweep her away. But by 2029, her Party will also be deservedly swept away because it simply cannot be trusted. Too many broken promises and too many anti-Conservative MPs.
