I’ve written about this before but the behaviour of certain people in the aftermath of of the assassination of Charlie Kirk demonstrates the dangers of rabbit holes. I am talking about Candace Owens, the US media pundit, and Gemma O’Doherty, the Irish based writer.
For starters, I know Gemma O’Doherty and like her. During the Covid tyranny, she was a stalwart and we used to talk fairly regularly on that issue. A few years ago, I spotted a growing obsession with Israel and the Jews. Now there is nothing wrong with challenging any group or any nation however Ireland does have a reputation as the most anti-Semitic nation in the west. But this obsession with the Jews became a dominant theme for her and I lost interest in her writing. Until I saw this….
She thinks it is all a psyop and that Charlie was an actor and he is still alive.
That’s demented. She isn’t the only one with such views.
Consider Candace Owens. Like Gemma, she has also fallen down the “hate Israel” rabbit hole and her take on the assassination of Charlie is bizarre. She claims that Israel hated him, that he was about to convert to Roman Catholicism, and that the Feds are behind the shooting.
Maybe grief does this to you? Maybe not.
Discernment is crucial here. Israel is not perfect and Netanyahu is a divisive figure. But that can be said of many nations and many politicians. Jumping all over Israel when Charlie Kirk has been brutally murdered is just insane and lacks judgement. Gemma and Candace are very smart ladies with lots of great analysis on other issues but on this one, they have fallen so far down the rabbit hole I am unsure if there is any way back up?
What do you make of it? I write this more in sorrow than anger.
