President Trump is a very smart businessman as well as an astute politician and his use of tariffs is grounded in both of those realities. Much of the left wing media don’t really seem to understand this and so they completely (or deliberately) misread the Trump strategy and tactic. Trump has already successfully used the threat of powerful tariffs on Mexico and Canada, with both countries caving almost instantly. China and the US are also mixing up as becomes the two global economic superpowers but that leaves one other political bloc to get the Trump treatment – the EU.
Here’s why;
As you can see, the EU runs a very large trading DEFICIT with the US and Trump is very aware of this. The UK runs a small trade SURPLUS with the US so I suspect Trump is triangulating with his comments here.
Either way, the EU is next in line and I can’t wait for Trump to impose the harshest tariffs imaginable on this authoritarian swamp. The EU likes to imagine itself to be on a par with the US but this in insane
As of recent data, the U.S. GDP is significantly larger than the EU’s. In 2024, according to the IMF, the U.S. GDP was projected at around $29.168 trillion, while the EU’s was at $19.403 trillion. This difference is even more pronounced when considering the EU’s population is much larger than that of the U.S., leading to a per capita GDP gap. Economists suggest the U.S. economy is now being 50% larger than the EU’s, a stark contrast from 16 years ago when they were nearly equal. The EU is in long term economic DECLINE and that’s what makes Sir Keir Starmer’s obsession to get back into it all the more bizarre!
Trump’s aim to get more US business share of the EU pie and he will advance that aim remorselessly. He may also have other geo-political aims, such as destroying the EU socialist hegemony and allowing the restoration of nation states like Italy.
This is just the beginning!
