The 5 lessons from Gorton and Denton

So despite all the polls indicating that the Gorton and Denton by-election was “too close to call” and the pundits explaining that this was “a tight 3 way contest between the Greens, Labour and Reform” the actual result was an overwhelming victory for the Greens.

This is how the votes actually went;

It wasn’t even close. A massive win for the Green Party, a humiliating 3rd place for Labour and Reform in a distant second. The Conservatives lost their deposit and Advance UK’s Nick Buckley came in below the Monster Raving Loony Candidate.

But let’s look under the hood so we can draw the right conclusions;

  1. The Muslim vote in this, and many other English constituencies, is substantial and shifting away from Labour. In this contest, the Green Party stood on a “We stand with Gaza” platform.

  2. England now has sectarian politics. It is clear that the Muslim vote turned out as a block and the level of “family voting” was without parallel. This is illegal but it still happened. Manchester City Council who overseen the vote are in denial on this point. Election integrity is no longer in place in these Labour controlled areas.

  3. Labour faces and existential crisis. It is now under attack from the left as well as the right. This places Sir Keir Starmer in an invidious position. Labour have held this constituency since 1931, no longer. The Conservatives lost their deposit, they are no longer a national party in England. The old Uniparty is finished.

  4. Reform performed in line with their % share of the National vote, but it fell well short of success because of the over performance of the Greens. This is yet another by-election where Reform proves unsuccessful and it does raise questions. Nigel Farage has been reluctant to talk about the threat of Islam – but he is now talking about it after the vote. Too late.

  5. Ben Habib’s Advance UK had a decent local candidate in the form of Nick Buckley and they got less than 0.5% of the vote. This is embarrassingly poor and there is no sugar coating it. Advance UK is electorally irrelevant.

The cry from Reform is that we should all unite behind them. But that is exactly what happened in Gorton and Denton and they still lost.

Rupert Lowe posted the following comments earlier;

“Restore Britain will end political Islam in Britain, and we will make this argument not only when it’s convenient for us to do so following an election loss.

We won’t just moan about it.

If we gain power, we will do something about it.

We will act.

Postal voting will be abolished, other than for those in genuine need.

A full state review into past irregularities would be launched – prosecutions will follow. If a foreign national is found guilty, they will be deported.

Every foreign national would lose their right to vote, and stand, in British elections.

British elections for British people.

There is nothing controversial about that.

Those foreign nationals who can’t speak English won’t just lose their right to vote, they will be removed from the country.”

I find this robust unapologetic analysis hard to argue against. Reform have been very coy about the danger of Islam in our country and Farage has previously ruled out any plan to deal with it.

This result proves one thing – if we don’t deal with third world voting, we will become the 3rd world.
