Did anybody else think that Rishi Sunak’s speech outside Downing Street last Friday night was a little strange? Me too. But I think we need to decipher it to understand what is really going on!
As always with Rishi, it seems to be style over substance. Nothing he said made any real sense beyond some vague notion of “fighting” far-left and far-right extremism. Now given that there is no “far right” extremism in the UK, perhaps we can conclude that Rishi REALLY meant “Islamic” terrorism but lacked the balls to say it? Yes? So instead he dressed it up with fake balance but it was the timing of his speech that is critical to understand.
