We all know that successive Government policy has turned our asylum system into a de facto rubber stamp, a madhouse with a 68% grant rate for cross channel arrivals from 2018-2024. Of course this is one reason why they keep on coming – they know that the majority will be allowed to stay! One minute you are a cross channel migrant, then a processed “asylum seeker” and then you get to stay! Result.
Starmer’s decision to clear the asylum backlog by approving claims is a calamity for the UK. This is all the more infuriating when you realise the flimsy grounds of many of these claims such as being “gay” or “Christian”! The migrants game the claims. This also ignores the fixed legal principle that asylum should not be granted from safe countries like France. Reminder – France is a SAFE country, each year millions of Brits holiday there! It isn’t a war zone!!
Government’s absolute failure to deport more than 96% of cross channel migrants highlights a totally toothless enforcement strategy. When Labour got in last summer, you may remember it restarted asylum processing, repealing parts of the Illegal Migration Act. Hilariously, this has actually ballooned the appeals backlog to 51,000 cases by March 2025, a 53% increase since June 2024, showing Labour’s mismanagement. You really couldn’t make it up!
The lack of ID verification for asylum seekers is another big issue here. It allows fraudulent claims to slip through, undermining national security and exposing a gaping hole in border controls. Meanwhile we taxpayers have to foot the bill for NHS access and benefits for approved migrants. This useless government offers no clear timeline to clear the huge backlog, leaving the system in chaos!
Another nasty little element in operation here is the decision to process claims during the summer parliamentary recess, thus avoiding any parliamentary scrutiny.
The Government is turning these criminal migrants into citizens as fast as it can. Heaven help us.
