I am sure most readers will share in the sense of relief that Lucy Connolly has been released from prison early. Her crime, as you may recall, was to post a hurty tweet. This is what was used to send her to jail.
Now then, she wrote these words in the aftermath of the Stockport murders of 3 young girls by a 2nd generation Rwandan, realised that perhaps the language was a bit spicy, then deleted it after a few hours.
Too late. She was arrested, advised by her solicitor to plead guilty, and then given a harsh 3 year prison sentence. The key background is that the Prime minister Sir Keir Starmer, had pledged he would crush the “far right” riots that had broken out and his pals on those Judicial benches obliged.
Lucy have now been freed, back to her family. But she has come out fighting. She has given an interview to Telegraph journalist Allison Pearson and to independent journalist Dan Wooton
She comes across very well, very normal. She says she intends to sue the Police and may stand against Home Secretary Yvette Cooper in 2029. (Not sure if that will be as a Reform or Conservative or Independent) Lucy had the class to acknowledge that whilst she has been freed, there are others still languishing behind bars for committing similar sins.
It seems to me that July 2024 ushered in a totalitarian regime headed by a Human Rights Lawyer (Starmer) that is determined to make us all feel fear if we speak out. Lucy and others were arrested and imprisoned last August but in 2025, people are getting arrested for saying “We like Bacon” and for flying the English flag – in England.
The idea is to make us all feel that we are in an open air prison where we mind our language; where we accept whatever the Government wants to do; and where protest is problematical. However, I feel that the country is near breaking point and that too many people are turning round and saying what they want.
Lucy Connolly has become a symbol of resistance to tyranny and it will not end well for the Starmer regime. They might think they have the power but the people have the will!
