A lot of articles here are political but I do like to vary the themes as I like other stuff.
I have always enjoyed songs with real passion in them and here are three that are always somewhere in my head.
The first is a tale of simmering jealousy and outrage entitled “I hope you’re happy now” by my eminence gris, Elvis Costello.
“I hope that you’re happy now like you’re supposed to be
And I know that this will hurt you more than it hurts me”
I like the rage and anger in the lyrics and I don’t think there is anyone who writes better than this.
Then, there is there is this song called “Days” written by Kinks frontman, Ray Davies. I like the sadness in it. This is my favourite version by Kirsty MacColl, who I absolutely adored. She was killed in an accident back in 2020, she never reached 40 and so when she sings
“Thank you for the days, Those endless days, those sacred days you gave me. I’m thinking of the days, I won’t forget a single day, believe me”” it melts my heart.
The final song I wanted to share with you is perhaps the greatest of all. And of course you all know it. I love the desolation in the words, this is the song where love came to die. The fact it got to number one is down to the genius melody and anthemic vibe.
So there you go – if you ever wondered what I really like, it’s this kind of stuff!
