It never was in any real doubt. Elections in the EU are controlled and we see that Hungary is now brought back into line.

In a result that really does the mark the end of an era, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has conceded defeat in the country’s parliamentary elections, after 16 years of dominant rule.

As I write this, results project a decisive victory for the opposition Tisza party, led by Péter Magyar, potentially delivering a two-thirds supermajority in the 199-seat National Assembly. This is a comprehensive defeat for the one decent political leader in the EU and it carries massive consequences.

Voters have turned out in record numbers, with turnout approximately 79%. Tisza is on track to win 132–135 seats, comfortably exceeding the 100 needed for a majority and approaching the 133 threshold for constitutional changes. Hungary better get ready for mass immigration.

How did this all happen? Well, Péter Magyar, a former Orbán ally who broke ranks to launch an anti-corruption campaign, positioned Tisza as a centre right, pro-EU force. He promised to end cronyism, restore democratic institutions, and improve relations with Brussels. Got that – PRO EU party wins in the EU and dissenting voices are defeated. This is how it always works in the EU. There can be no dissent.

Magyar’s message resonated strongly amid public frustration over economic stagnation, allegations of corruption, and Hungary’s foreign policy alignments.

Orbán has acknowledged the clear outcome, saying the results were “understandable and clear.” Orban’s campaign had received public backing from U.S. President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance, yet it failed to stem voter discontent.

What will this mean? A Tisza government will most likely unlock frozen EU funds, realign Hungary’s stance within the European Union and NATO, and reduce friction with Ukraine. In this regard, it represents a seismic shift not only for Hungary but for the broader European political landscape. Globalism has once again prevailed and Europe will be the worse for it.

Viktor Orban was the last chance for positive change in the EU. Now he is defeated we all lose.
