EU cancels democracy in Romania!

It’s truly stunning to watch how the EU is crushing the will of the people in Romania because they won’t vote the “right” way.

Be under no illusion, the EU is the enemy of freedom.

Let’s understand what has been happening there.

Back in November 2024, Romania held the first round of its presidential election, where populist candidate Călin Georgescu emerged as the frontrunner, securing the highest number of votes.

However, the country’s Constitutional Court annulled the election results just before the scheduled December 8, 2024, runoff.

So the COURT moved to undermine what the people voted, a thing we see happening right across the West as activist judges move to mute democracy!

Their decision was based on declassified intelligence reports alleging (Sighs) Russian interference, particularly through a TikTok campaign that boosted Georgescu’s visibility. Georgescu, a relatively unknown figure prior to the election, has been noted for his positive Russian stance, criticism of NATO, and opposition to aid for Ukraine. These are all cardinal sins in the eyes of the Eurocrats.

Following the annulment, a rerun of the presidential election was scheduled for May 2025, with the first round set for May 4 and a potential runoff on May 18 if no candidate secures a majority. Georgescu submitted his candidacy for the rerun on March 7, 2025.

However, Romania’s Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) has just barred him from participating, citing his failure to comply with electoral regulations. This decision came after a 10-4 vote and was supported by the Constitutional Court’s prior ruling on the annulled election.

The BEC’s move sparked immediate backlash, including protests in Bucharest where hundreds of Georgescu’s supporters clashed with police, accusing the authorities of orchestrating a “coup d’état.”

Georgescu has announced his intent to challenge the ban in court, though analysts suggest his chances of overturning it are remote. The decision has significant implications: three nationalist opposition parties, holding 35% of parliamentary seats and previously backing Georgescu, may now lack a candidate for the May election. This has deepened Romania’s constitutional crisis and drawn international attention.

The situation has also fueled a transatlantic rift.

U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Elon Musk, criticised the annulment and Georgescu’s exclusion as undemocratic, with Vance arguing it reflected Romania abandoning American values and Musk calling the BEC’s decision “crazy.”

Conversely, European diplomats from countries like Germany and France have supported Romania’s judicial independence, viewing the measures as a defense against foreign meddling.

It sums up the VAST difference between freedom loving America and freedom curtailing Europe.
