Can you guess which year
Labour came to power by looking at the chart above? This shows numbers of prisoners released in ERROR and it has surged since Starmer became Prime Minister.
We read that a total of 91 prisoners were freed by mistake between April and October this year. The data for England and Wales was published by the Ministry of Justice, as ministers face pressure over accidental releases after a number of high-profile cases in recent weeks. Justice Secretary David Lammy told MPs the figures were “symptomatic of a prison system under a horrendous strain”, saying the Labour government had inherited a “crisis” from the Conservatives.
But why did this “crisis” not manifest itself until Labour came to power?
Conservative Robert Jenrick skewered Lammy in the Commons yesterday over this issue.
There’s a lot of truth in what Jenrick says although there were years of Conservative incompetence too! But along came September of last year and the Early Release Scheme that Labour put in place. And the rest is chaos.
