It’s disturbing but not surprising to read that in 11 of England’s 153 local authorities, over half of pupils do not speak English as their first language at home. Newham in east London tops the list at 66%, followed by Harrow and Brent at 63%. Newham just happens to have a large MUSLIM population – over a third, so maybe we can’t be that shocked that they can’t speak English? But it gets worse…
