It is a tried and tested tactic that conniving politicians always use to gain your trust so that they can then take control of you. They tell that whatever it is they are doing, they are doing it to protect the kids. I mean, who would take exception to that?
Do you WANT kids to suffer? What is wrong with you?
That’s how they do it! Contrived emotional blackmail.
And so it is with the truly Orwellian UK “Online Safety Act” that has been brought into legal force and is now causing massive censorship in the UK. As expected, it is being retailed to us as keeping children safe from on-line danger. Here is the Science Minister Peter Kyle suggesting that any of those people who oppose it are aligned with notorious paedophile Jimmy Saville!
It’s an incredible assertion. Kyle is claiming that the only purpose of the Act is to protect our children and THAT is a big fat lie.
Since coming into force, the Online Safety Act has blocked / restricted censored content that has nothing to do with children. This includes immigration and parliament debates. Wikipedia is challenging the categorisation rules as the act will mean tough restrictions on that site too. All of a sudden, the UK has North Korean levels of speech restrictions but it is all to “protect the kids’!
And guess what – VPN’s are being downloaded en masse. Young people are tech savvy and know they can get around the restrictions by setting the VPN to outside the UK. Now some Labour MPs are demanding that VPNs are banned. In short, Labour wants all online privacy removed so that the Government can see what you are doing.
In fact, it gets even WORSE if that is imaginable!!
Buried deep in the UK Online safety act (section 122 (2)(a)(iii)) is legislation giving Ofcom the power to do exactly the same as Ireland intends to do and use client-side scanning This lets the state intercept your private messages, not by breaking encryption, but by scanning the messages directly on your phone before you send them! How frightening is that? Big Brother will watch what you are doing and see it before you even send it. But it’s to keep the kids safe so that’s ok, right?
I think ALL responsible people want to protect children from on-line predators. But the same Government that is suddenly SO concerned about our kids did everything possible earlier this year to stop a national inquiry into rape gangs preying on them. So I don’t buy their cover story and neither should you!
