I posted this image over on my X/Twitter account and it has gone viral, now approaching 6m views. I think it makes a dark point well and a lot of the people who saw it got the joke but a small number got very upset with me. Some people accused me of showing no respect for the victims of Ian Brady and Myra Hindley – the two murderers who carried out devilish crimes in the early 1960’s.
Well, I don’t accept this criticism.
For starters, this is making a point about Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves. It is suggesting that this pair may prove very harmful to the UK. That’s a valid point of view and by imposing their faces on two wicked people that simply doubles down on the point concerned. It’s supposed to get a laugh and maybe a wince.
I think dark humour can be very effective and the vast majority of the 6m who saw this image got the point ok. We British have always been good at mocking authority and I hope we won’t stop. The thing THEY fear most is our laughter!
