As we prepare to wave goodbye to 2025, Spotify has kindly provided me with a list of my most played songs and I wanted to share the top three with you!
My MOST played song of this year is “God only knows” by the Beach Boys. Following the death of Brian Wilson back in June, I must have played this a million times. I think that Wilson was a once in a generation musical genius and nowhere is this more obvious than in this masterpiece. The harmonies are sublime and the melody soars! There are many great Beach Boys songs but this is the one that I played the most.
My second most played song was this 1982 classic from Elvis Costello entitled “Man out of time” It’s been on my turntable ever since. It is a Dylan-esque ballad but with smashing lines such as “There`s a tuppeny hapenny millionaire. Looking for a fourpenny one, With a tight grip on the short hairs, Of the public imagination” Well worth a listen!
And my third most played tune of the year I am informed was another Beach Boys classic called “Don’t worry Baby”. It’s another harmony laden gem.
