July 2025 marked one year of Labour in Government and it also saw Prime Minister Keir Starmer force through watered down welfare reform bill in Parliament after a major Labour rebellion threatened to derail it. This was a humiliation.

The climbdown averted defeat but exposed Starmer’s fundamentally weakened authority after his landslide victory, forcing Chancellor Rachel Reeves to find £3-5 billion extra elsewhere, likely via taxes. This moment marked the beginning of the end for Starmer!

In August, the news was dominated the big Trump-Putin Summit in Alaska. Trump hosted Putin for direct talks on ending Russia’s Ukraine invasion, excluding Zelenskyy and making the European weep in impotent rage! It was clear these guys respect each other.

September started horrifically when Charlie Kirk was assassinated on September 10. I think this was the shocking moment of 2025. Charlie was fatally shot in the neck at during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University.

Late September saw Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper and Prime Minister Keir Starmer announce their pitiful decision to recognise “Palestine” alongside Canada and Australia, citing Gaza’s worsening crisis. The US was not impressed!

In October, confounding the critics, President Trump overseen the implementation of a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas War. This ended the conflict that had lasted over two years since Hamas’s October 2023 attack. A peace plan took effect on October 10, leading to the release of remaining Israeli hostages (with the last 20 living hostages returning on October 13) in exchange for thousands of Palestinian prisoners.

November brought us the horror of Chancellor Rachel Reeves delivering the Autumn Budget. This fiscal statement introduced significant tax increases totalling around £26 billion by 2030, pushing the UK’s tax burden to a postwar high. You might recall Reeves told us in 2024 she would NOT increase taxes. She lied.

And finally, we arrive at this month, December Just a few backs two muslim gunmen carried out a terrorist mass shooting at Bondi Beach, Sydney, during a Hanukkah celebration, killing 15 people.

Of course there was so much more than this but these moments captured my attentions and perhaps yours too!

2025, that was the year that was!
