There is no easy way to say this – Trump bottled the Iranian operation. He made it abundantly clear to those Iranians that they should continue to protest on the streets as “help was on the way” It didn’t come.
They continue to be killed on the streets. However the planned hangings of around 800 protesters have been stopped. They just shoot them instead.
The question is why did Trump pull out and essentially abandon the protesters? Some say it was because he did not have absolute certainly that one attic would be enough to bring down their regime. That may be true but there is little doubt the US could very significantly weaken the Mullacracy. However it does seem more likely that it was the last minute intervention of the Gulf States that stopped the attack coming.
And that’s significant. It suggests that whilst the US has the military power, it is cowed by the oil-rich Gulf States and what they might do in the event of a strike. So the metro-dollar trumps Trump. Sad!
