Welcome back to my Substack channel and I hope you all enjoyed the Christmas break! If you lived in the UK, there is at least a chance that you may have watched the Kings’s Speech on Christmas Day. This seasonal address to the Nation has been a feature of British life since 1957 and it used to be a moment when families would gather around the TV to hear what the Monarch had to say. In recent years, that has fallen away somewhat as our TV viewing habits splinter into a million pieces.
According to BARB overnight figures, 6.82 million people watched the King’s message across BBC, ITV, BBC News and Sky News. It places the broadcast as the third most-watched programme of Christmas Day 2024, after Gavin and Stacey: The Finale (12.32 million) and Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl (9.38 million)
I suspect demographic changes in recent decades will also account for the falling viewing figures as I am not so sure the more recent arrivals have any interest in the Head of State. That being said I am not sure that I have much interest in the WEF inspired King Charles.
This years speech was the usual menu of woke garbage and narrative enforcing drivel. We were told how he admired how the “emergency services” dealt with the summer “riots” to restore calm. We were further informed how the diversity of the Commonwealth was such a wonderful asset to the UK. I can never be sure if King Charles is just a useful fool or something worse. But I do know that he is more political than Queen Elizabeth in his public musings and his embrace of the Net Zero scam is profoundly annoying.
