Substack treachery.

Something happened to my Substack account on the 5th January 2026. I didn’t really understand it at the time and found the experience a bit unsettling. I have previously talked about the way in which ALL growth of new subscribers suddenly stopped after rising solidly throughout 2025. I started getting daily email notifications of unsubscribes from free followers which puzzled me. This continues to this very day but then something else happened. This is what I want to share with you.

One of those whose email is unsubscribed is someone that I know very well, a dear friend. So I found it odd that she would have unsubscribed as a free subscriber. So I reached out directly and she had NOT unsubscribed to my substack. Yet her email was still unsubscribed by some other force.

So now I KNOW I have proof that whatever is going on, someone or something in Substack is working against me. Substack wants to ensure I do not grow.

I don’t know why. You guys read my stuff and can judge if it is extreme. I don’t think it is in any way.

But it makes me think about what I should do.

Substack is taking away free subscribers.

Paid subscribers are a different matter. The numbers are modest but they are not going back. So that’s strange. It seems if you become a paid subscriber then you stay with me,

I will continue to write here as I enjoy it but I want to thank everyone who is prepared to pay £5 a month for my content and hope that a few more of you will choose to do so.
