The majority of MSP’s in the new Scottish Parliament voted today for the powers to be able to hold a 2nd Independence Referendum. Here is First Minister John Swinney putting the case;
Now I am a Unionist by heart and think that a United Kingdom is our best formation but for how much longer can we tolerate the ingratitude of Scottish Separatists and their endless whining? It was an unholy alliance between the SNP and the Greens that allowed this to pass and of course Westminster will not grant it. This then creates the friction that feeds the Scottish Separatists and on and on it goes.
You will remember that the last Scottish Referendum was held back in 2014 and there was a decisive result in FAVOUR of Scotland staying in the United Kingdom on a 555:45% split, and that was on a very turn out of 84%. That was supposed to have been that. It was a “once in a generation” referendum. 14 years later, the Separatists want another one!
Now at the recent May 7th election for the Scottish Parliament, the SNP stood on the pledge that if they got a majority then they would call for another referendum. They got no such majority and in fact their vote was substantially down and they lost seats. But in an act of hubris, they claim that the call for a 2nd Referendum is greater than ever and they now have allies in the demented Green Party
The 2014 Independence Referendum was a bad spirited event causing much stress in the Scottish communities. That means nothing to the SNP who know that their whole offering pivots on this issue and whether we like it or not, a lot of Scots vote for them.
So, why not call their bluff and grant them a 2nd Indy Referendum on the following criteria;
-
They will not have access to the British Pound. The BOE will not underwrite their fantasy.
-
There will be a hard border with England. Scottish products will be treated as all other EU imports and subject to relevant charges.
-
The Monarchy will end all associations with Scotland,
-
All MOD jobs based in Scotland will relocate to other parts of the UK
-
And finally; North Sea oilfields remain British rather than Scottish.
So vote for Independence on THOSE terms and see how it goes.
I think we should confront the Scottish Indy argument head on.
