The insanity of Net Zero combined with the Scottish Nationalist Party was always going to create massive problems and so it has come to pass! Turns out that wood burning stoves are now effectively banned going forward!
Changes to the building standards – the regulations governing the requirements for all building in Scotland – came in last week, forbidding the use of ‘direct emission heating systems.’
Effectively, that means that new houses and conversions are not allowed to use gas or oil boilers, or any form of bioenergy where electricity or heat is generated from organic matter such as wood.
Instead, housebuilders are expected to use what are known as ‘zero DEH’ systems such as heat pumps, solar thermal storage systems or electric storage heaters.
Now given the far from tropical climate in Scotland, you might think that banning ALL forms of traditional effective forms of heating is insane, but that is precisely what they have proceeded to do and the only reason that there has been little discussion about it is because at the same time, the demented SNP introduced “Hate Crime” law which has garnered all the publicity.
It’s interesting to see the SNP pushing “heat pumps” as a “better” alternative to oil, gas and wood heat. Let’s get an expert opinion on that from a leading producer of heat pumps in Scotland!
Labour peer and businessman Lord Haughey, whose company is one of Scotland’s leading suppliers of heat pumps, told BBC Radio’s Good Morning Scotland that electric boilers would be more cost-effective and environmentally-friendly options for most Scottish homes. He also said heat pumps do not work as efficiently in Scotland as they do in other countries, with some liable to malfunction at temperatures of minus 5C (23F) or lower.
I’m not sure how a crofter living in a remote Scottish rural location would feel about such a “malfunction” when it is freezing outside but the SNP don’t really care. Fake Chimneys will be allowed on new build properties for aesthetic reasons but of course there is no longer going to be any practical requirement for chimneys!
There is plenty of evidence that when Labour get into power at Westminster, this lunacy will then be extended across England and Wales. Eventually, the UK is going to be FORCED into replacing heating systems that work, are reliable and convenient, with the insanity of Heat Pumps and Solar Panels.
