I have been critical of Conservative Leader Kemi Badenoch but I always think you should credit where credit is due. Yesterday, she got to give the official response to Chancellor Rachel Reeves horrible budget and she was magnificent. Watch this short summary.
In a situation like this, it really took a woman to effectively deal with the whining from Reeves that she is fed up with “mansplaining”. Just like at the Chancellor’s face at the end of this speech from Badenoch. That is what you call game, set and match.
If Badenoch could perform this well in PMQ’s she might have a chance of turning her Party fortunes around. She was assured, witty and devastatingly good. Labour looked very unhappy and with good reason,
One other key insight into the budget came from Beth Rigby of all people! I know, a real turn up for the books. Watch this.
“This is a Budget about self-preservation, not the good of the country”
That is exactly what it was about. This was Labour talking to Labour.
This was Reeves 2nd Budget and it will be her last. It reeks of desperation and appeasement of her foaming at the mouth back benchers. Yes, the £2.4bn transfer of wealth to large Muslim families via the lifting of the 2 child credit cap will hit in April and help shore up their votes in May.
But I still think Labour is doomed next May and this budget will backfire like the last one. She and Starmer will be for the high jump. The problem is that the UK will continue to suffer at the hands of this clown government!
