It might seem a strange thing to say but only having a solid policed border on the Irish Island can save Ireland. The Good Friday Agreement essentially removed that physical border infrastructure and this was hailed as a triumph for Irish Nationalism. But things have take a turn for the worse.
According to new figures, 269 non-Ukrainian asylum seekers arrived in Ireland during the past week. The demographic breakdown indicates 25% are from Somalia, 25% from Pakistan/Afghanistan, and 10% from Nigeria. Yeah, simply the best!
Strikingly, and this is the crucial point, an estimated 90% of these arrivals are reported to have entered via Northern Ireland, bypassing all direct entry points and the Republic’s border control systems. In short, they just strolled in from the North!
