It’s summertime and millions of people are going off on holidays “to get the sun” The shops are full of all kinds of suntan lotions and sunscreens and the idea is that you do NOT go out into bright sun without covering your body in these lotions. Several times a day and all ages too.
Just one slight concern – do they give you cancer?
Let’s start by looking at the evidence.
A 2017 Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology study revealed that melanoma rates surged after SPF 15+ sunscreens hit the market in the 1980s! Does this suggest that chemical blockers contained in the sunscreen might actually amplify cancer risks rather than shield us from it?
A 2023 PMC review underscores sunscreen’s dark side: it blocks UVB rays critical for vitamin D synthesis. This deficiency is linked to chronic conditions like depression and fatigue and challenges the “sun is evil” mantra peddled by public health campaigns. The truth is that the sun is good for us. Vitamin D helps us ward off cancers yet these sunscreens block that.
So, are we trading natural vitality for a bottle of endocrine-disrupting chemicals?
Check out this map. The indisputable truth is that the countries using most sunscreen have the most skin cancer. Coincidence?
Is the unspeakable truth that the sun is good for you and that by demonising it, Big Pharma has encouraged people to deprive themselves of all the benefits it provides and instead cover themselves in chemical poison? They would NEVER be that cynical, would they?
