An Irish uprising we can all support!

Let me tell you my memories of the CityWest Hotel in Dublin which is now the epicentre of a very large local protest against migrants. Back in the day it was an upmarket business hotel and I attended several major events in it. It’s situated in Saggart, southwest of Dublin, on approximately 135 acres, and features over 770 bedrooms, extensive conference facilities, and was formerly, a prominent golf resort. It fell into financial difficulties and during the Covid pandemic, it was used for self-isolation, quarantine, and as a major vaccination centre. Since 2022, it has been a major government hub for accommodating illegal migrants, with the Irish State recently purchasing it for €148.2 million to ensure sustainable long-term use.

In short, it is a major migrant base and everyone knows it. It’s sad for me to see how far it has fallen.

There have been fiery but mostly peaceful protests outside this centre for the past two consecutive nights following an alleged sexual assault in the nearby area early on Monday morning.

It is alleged that a 10 year old girl was raped by an African migrant staying in the hotel. It is further alleged that he is a *failed* asylum seeker with an active deportation order since March. Obviously he hasn’t been deported. It appears Ireland doesn’t bother with the “deportation” part of a deportation order. Too expensive.

Last night, clashes escalated with a large crowd (in the thousands) gathering outside the hotel. Protesters threw stones, missiles, and fireworks at the Irish police, set a Garda vehicle on fire, and engaged in chanting and demonstrations. The Garda’s public order unit was deployed, using mounted officers, pepper spray, and a water cannon to manage the unrest. Well known Canadian journalist Ezra Levant was covering the incident before being pepper sprayed randomly by the out of control Irish police.

Reviewing the coverage of this alleged rape, it seems clear to me that the Irish political establishment and media are much more concerned about the well being of the alleged migrant rapist than the concerns of local people. In predictable fashion they are portrayed as “far right anti migrant extremists”! They are set up as the problem! But there is widespread anger and at some point the Irish may decide they have had enough. That’s when you will get a revolution that cannot be stopped.
