They say that 24 hours is a long time in politics and my goodness isn’t this so true given what has happened here in the UK since I was with you here yesterday! In summary, Reform Leader Nigel Farage held a press conference yesterday afternoon addressing all the financial allegations made against him and then, in what I thought was a ballsy act, he threw down the gauntlet to all his critics and resigned his seat in Clacton, thus triggering a by-election in which he will stand! And in which he will win,
He said that he would be judged by the people of the Constituency where he has been MP since 2024, not by the sneering political class and scum media. And he is quite right. In fact this is the very definition of what is meant by “taking back control”. He has tried to win back control of the narrative and in doing so has caused a sensation.
So what happened next?
Well, ALL the other political parties announced that they would NOT put up a candidate in this By-Election. In doing this, they think they have neutralised Farage. They think that they can wait until September/October by which times the Parliamentary Committee of Standards may have come to a determination on Farage’s financial doing. It is possible that this may trigger ANOTHER By Election in Clacton. Maybe.
When we look at voting intentions in Clacton, Farage won almost 50% in 2024, with the Conservatives coming in a distant second on 25%. Labour and the rest are nowhere. Kemi Badenoch keeps telling us that her Party is on the way back so you might have thought that she would be keen to test this. Not a bit of it. She instantly ruled out the prospect of a Conservative candidate. What I found illuminating was the language she used to do this was almost identical to the language Rupert Lowe used when he too chose to run away from the fight. (Restore seems increasingly like a Conservative spoiler operation.)
So we now have a By Election where only one Party is standing – Reform. The others have fled the field claiming moral superiority in the process. What despicable cowards. The reason they refuse to stand is that they ALL know they will be humiliated by the voters. Badenoch is “frit” and shows that the Conservatives are just another branch of the Deep State.
Here’s what the establishment wants. Keep the Sword of Damocles hanging over Farage this summer even as Burnham is coronated as Prime Minister. Then. in the autumn, announce the determination of the Parliamentary Standards Committee with the possibility of a Clacton by-election. Farage would have to fight that as the “guilty party” and that would be damaging for him and Reform. Lib Dem Leader Ed Davey has gone on Sky News to talk about this and he said, without correction, that Farage has been found guilty. But he hasn’t. Low IQ Davey is simply giving the game away, they WANT Farage to be punished and this is the chosen way to do it.
Let me spell out how I see this. When the entire political establishment and media are against you, chances are you are doing something right. So I commend Nigel Farage on his latest move. This is Leadership and it has disconcerted the Deep State. This further proves that Farage himself is not “controlled opposition” and in fact he seen as its existential enemy. The UK needs dramatic change in 2029 if we are to survive. Nigel Farage is not perfect BUT he is the best chance we have. On this one, I am unambiguously on the side of Farage and Reform. So should you.
