I have been a huge fan ever since his Monty Python days, and I consider Fawlty Towers to be the ultimate British comedy classic. John Cleese is a true national institution! At a time when most celebrities tiptoe around controversy, choosing safe, predictable causes to virtue-signal from their gilded platforms, John Cleese stands apart. And I admire this.
At 86 years old, the Python icon has been unleashing a torrent of unfiltered truth on X, fearlessly confronting Islamic extremism, sectarianism, woke censorship, and the illiberal forces threatening free speech and Western values. I have watched it all in amazement. He has even subtweeted some of my stuff!
Up until this point, Cleese has been wearisomely anti-Trump and anti-Brexit. Not much to like, really.
But far from fading into quiet retirement, Cleese has become a new bold force!
