We start the New Year where we finished the old one – with the UK borders wide open.

More than 41,000 migrants crossed the Channel in small boats in 2025 – almost 5,000 more than the previous year. Home Office figures, with just the number for New Year’s Eve to be added later, showed the total number of migrants crossing the Channel in the past year was 41,472, marking a 13% rise on the 36,566 for the previous 12 months. The annual total was the highest since 2022, when nearly 46,000 crossed.

So much for “smashing the gangs”, so much for “one in one out”, so much for getting the French to help us stem the flow.

I went back to check how many cross channel migrants came here in the final 18 months of Conservative Government. The number is approx 40,000. If you compare that to the number of cross channel migrants that came here during the first 18 months of Labour, the number is approx 60,000. So that is a 50% INCREASE over which Labour has presided. A more shocking indictment of their gross ineptitude is hard to imagine!

Let’s just remember the promises made by Starmer in July 2024.

Maybe it was a bit of both? As a lawyer, he would have know that our membership of the ECHR means we cannot deport those who arrive here in most circumstances. Rather than commit to leave it, he has doubled down on his support for it. The resources of the RNLI and Royal Navy are deployed to facilitate the collection of migrants. When you stand back and look at it, there is nothing in place to stop them coming here, apart from a spell of bad weather,

With Labour in power for another four years, we will may see a further 200,000 illegal migrants come across the English Channel. Assuming the majority get to stay, who do you think they will vote for in 2029? A Party that stood by and let them come in despite public assurance to the contrary, or those that want to deport them?

As in the US, Labour want these migrants here for at least three Machiavellian reason;
