So the UK Government proudly announces that it has concluded a deal with the EU and that it will rejoin the Erasmus+ programme in academic year 2027-2028. We had previously left Erasmus as part of the post Brexit deal and set up our own alternative called the Turing Scheme. That is being reversed by Starmer.
What exactly is this Erasmus+ Exchange student scheme?
Erasmus funded students and trainees to study or work abroad in other European countries, and also supported staff exchanges and partnerships between universities. Before Brexit, the UK was one of the most popular destinations, hosting around 30,000–35,000 incoming Erasmus students and trainees a year and sending around ten thousand of UK students to study in Europe.
Got that? Erasmus channelled two to three times as many EU students here as UK student to the EU. In our final year, 2019, we paid the EU £296M.
Under Labour we have agreed to pay £570 in 2027-28 which includes a 30% discount which as far as I can see will only apply year one only. So it’s likely that we will pay closer to £750m 2028-2029. Starmer hails this as fantastic news.
In a way he is right but not in a good way!
You see under the banner of Erasmus+ is something called the Jean Monnet Programme.
“Ostensibly an academic initiative, is in fact a taxpayer-funded, global propaganda network designed to embed pro-EU narratives, quash dissent, and shape public opinion far beyond the classroom. This program, part of Erasmus+, funnels an estimated €25 million of public money every year into universities worldwide, transforming academic institutions into “vehicles of institutional propaganda”.’
Got that? So under Erasmus+, £££ millions are transferred into Universities to make them even more woke and more slavishly pro EU, pro Globalism. Starmer undoubtedly sees this as desirable as it further featherbeds academia from reality.
Rejoining this bloated EU scheme is a calculated undoing of Brexit from a Government that knows it will be removed by 2029 so it intends to wreak as much havoc as possible by then.
This is Fabian fascism in full cry.
